REGIONAL CITIES NSW WANT MORE WORKPLACE HUBS

Regional Cities New South Wales (RCNSW) has congratulated the government on the success of Workplace Hubs and is seeking bipartisan support for this model to be rolled out more broadly.

There are 15 regional cities in NSW and five have or are in the process of establishing Workplace Hubs  - Coffs Harbour, Gosford, Orange, Dubbo and Newcastle.

RCNSW advocates that there is an important opportunity for Workplace Hubs to be funded in the remaining 10 regional cities.

Workplace Hubs draw together key government departments and instrumentalities into one central building, providing a practical point of access for the region while removing duplication and increasing collaboration between departments.

“Workplace Hubs allow public servants to live and work in the areas that they serve, which means they are contributing to our local economy and building a deeper connection to regional communities” Cr Mathew Dickerson Chair of RCNSW and Mayor of Dubbo Regional Council explained.

“We welcome the New South Wales (NSW) Government’s investment in Workplace Hubs and the benefits they bring to regional communities” Cr Dickerson said.

An example of a Workplace Hub under development is at Coffs Harbour where the NSW government announced a $55.1 million investment in the 6,900 square meter Coffs Harbour Workplace Hub in 2021.  The Hub will co-locate 26 government offices and 643 regional public servants into one modern and efficient building with an expected completion date in 2024.

“The Workplace Hub model is highly successful and we would like to see it rolled out more broadly, with at least two regional city Workplace Hubs rolled out per year over the next five years” Cr Dickerson concluded.
