REGIONAL CITIES NSW SAYS THANK YOU

Chair of RCNSW Cr Mathew Dickerson

With the end of the year upon us, I would like to thank all of our stakeholders for their support of Regional Cities New South Wales (RCNSW) throughout 2023.

Regional cities play an irreplaceable role in the New South Wales economy and for millions of people they also offer a liveable and affordable alternative to Sydney.

The regions embraced the COVID-led population boom, however this unprecedented migration also highlighted the importance of ensuring that infrastructure, housing and services can keep pace with demand.

RCNSW has been advocating for increased investment for regional cities, including new funding for housing, skills, connectivity and to address the methodology for forecasting population growth so that regional cities can continue to prosper and grow.

I am pleased to see our 2023 advocacy program yielding positive results for the regions including:

  • Securing funding for a business case to develop infrastructure solutions to road freight choke points across regional cities;

  • Participating in Infrastructure NSW’s Strategic Infrastructure Review to review the state’s $11.6 billion infrastructure program; and

  • Ongoing work to address the regional housing crisis.

With next year just around the corner, advocacy planning is already underway with a particular focus on the issues of housing, growth planning, connectivity, skills and regional programs to enhance liveability and community.

Please accept my heartfelt good wishes for the festive season and I look forward to working with you again in 2024.

Kind regards

Cr Mathew Dickerson
